For the second part of my journey in the Käsivärsi, the westerly wind picked up, bringing with it the first signs of spring on the boreal tundra. The temperature rose and the snow stopped falling. Back at lower altitudes, only a few patches of melted snow remained in the hollows formed by the micro-relief. Life seemed to explode, with countless passerines and waders singing and circling in the sky. Nuptial parades and flights, frantic fights... The breeding season was well and truly under way. There's no time to waste, winter will soon be back.
